Resident´s register

Resident´s register is the official registration of residence in a Spanish municipality. It is a compulsory procedure for all citizens living in Spain, regardless of nationality.

  • Legal Requirement: It is mandatory by law to access public services and social benefits.
  • Official Identification: The census certificate is required for various administrative procedures.
  • Electoral Registration: Allows you to participate in local and European elections.
  • Conditions of Residence: It may be required for obtaining certain visas and residence permits.

Habitual Residence: You must live permanently in a dwelling in the municipality of Málaga.

Necessary Documentation:

  • Proof of Identity: Valid ID card, passport, foreigner’s card, driving license, etc.
  • Authorization (if not the owner): If you are not the property owner, you must present the appropriate authorization, a copy of your identification document, and the identification document of the person authorizing you.
  • Minors: Registration may be requested by parents or legal guardians, with proof of identity and documents proving their relationship (family record book or guardianship document). If the request is made by a parent who does not live at the same address, authorization from the other parent will be required.
  1. Go to any OMAC or Tax Management office.
  2. Identify yourself by providing the necessary documentation.
  3. You will be given the registration form.
  4. Contact the Municipal Information Telephone 010.
  5. Provide your DNI, date of birth, telephone number, and email address.
  6. Indicate the registration details of the interested party. Only individual type certificates will be provided through this method.
  7. Indicate the reason for the request.
  8. In a few days, the requested certificate will be sent by ordinary mail to the address listed in the Padrón de Habitantes.

Individual and Joint Certificates

  • Access the procedure: Registration form without a digital certificate.
  • Enter the required personal data.
  • Select the type of certificate and the reason for the request (only individual registration details will be included).
  • Click on Obtain.
  • In a few days, the requested form will be sent by ordinary mail to the address listed in the Padrón de Habitantes.

Only Individual Certificates

  • Ensure you have a user certificate installed in your browser and comply with the requirements for using My Folder (see requirements).
  • Access the procedure: Registration form with a digital certificate.
  • This method can only be used to obtain individual registration forms.
  • The applicant’s data (name, surname, DNI/NIE) will appear.
  • Enter the required data (date of birth, type of form, and reason for the request). Click on Obtain.
  • The requested registration form will open in PDF format, which you can print and/or save.

If you receive an error message, it may be because you are not registered in the Municipal Register of Inhabitants of Málaga or because your personal data do not match our records.

Where should I register if I live in a shared apartment?
You can register in the apartment where you live. In some cases, a certificate of cohabitation may be required.

Is it necessary to renew the registration periodically?
It is not necessary to renew it unless you change your address or there are changes in your situation that affect your registration.

How long does it take to process the residents’ register?
Generally, the process is quick, and you can receive the census certificate immediately or within a few days, depending on the municipality.
